What does ADD treatment entail?

ADD is a developmental disorder. That is, it is a congenital disorder of the brain that cannot be cured. Its treatment must therefore necessarily and permanently focus on reducing its symptoms.

This can be directly on brain activity or indirectly on the effects of that brain activity in daily life. Here, we specifically discuss safe and healthy treatment of ADD.

Our own safe and affordable treatment programme makes you healthier and fitter, and also improves most of the ADHD symptoms. 35 years of experience taught us how to fine-tune healthy treatment for ADHD.

What should you do?

Specifically, the programme includes: an initial Webinar (42′) explaining the programme. The right oils and fats, natural sugars, fruits and vegetables, cereals, types of healthy breakfast, types of tea, alcohol and other fluids. Good sleep hygiene is also made clear in detail. A general explanation of sense and nonsense of supplements. Finally, also some explanation on exercise. Curious about the webinar format? Then be sure to watch our free webinar.

Does the treatment work immediately?

No, surely it takes three to four weeks for the first ADD symptoms to subside. Usually it takes 2 to 3 months before it reaches cruising speed. In people who already pay attention to their sleep and diet and exercise enough, things can go faster. The adjustment to the new diet takes even longer, which means that the symptoms may continue to decline for up to a year after starting the programme. The intention is that you stick with this programme for life.

How long can I use the online treatment programme? You can use the programme for as long as you wish.

Is the treatment evidence-based?

There is scientific evidence for administration of omega-3 fatty acids and avoidance of food additives in children. Gaming combined with sports in young children (4-5 years) also have a significant effect. In addition, administering vitamin D-3 to adults has proven effectiveness.

If any scientific research exists on the effects of alternative treatments for ADD, it is usually done on one element (e.g. one supplement), without taking into account general issues such as diet, exercise and sleep hygiene. Moreover, this measurement of the effect of the alternative treatment is usually done over too short a period of time, e.g. 10 weeks.

Do we earn from selling the products in the programme?

No, we do not benefit financially in any way from the products in this programme, on the contrary, we help you to get tips on how to keep costs as low as possible when buying the products. For example, by encouraging you to regularly compare prices of qualitatively similar brands. We have no commercial or other affiliation with any book, company, brand or food product etc. that we promote in our programme.

Treating ADD right away

Treatment may involve directly influencing the functioning of the brain itself. For this, there are two options: taking medication (often methylphenidate, sold under various brand names) or modifying lifestyle habits (sleep hygiene, diet and exercise).

The effects of relaxation, acupuncture, mindfulness, bio-feedback, NLP, yoga, meditation and so on on brain function in ADD have not been scientifically proven. There is also homeopathy, diets, all kinds of herbs, special glasses, etc. But there is little or no scientific evidence that these treatments also work effectively.

Do we get concrete nutritional advice?

Attention to right eating habits prolongs life and increases its quality.

Careful and permanent modification of certain lifestyle habits, together with some supplements, can ensure that many Reducing AD(H)D symptoms.

When taking medication, this often allows the dose to be reduced or stopped altogether.

Proper nutrition is discussed at length and in detail in the treatment programme.

Addressing ADD symptoms

ADD treatment can also be directed indirectly, at the symptoms themselves. One can learn to procrastinate less, have more order, handle time better, learn to organise oneself better, learn to constantly go into hyperfocus and so on. On the internet, one finds so-called ‘ADD coaches’, ’therapists’, ‘counsellors’, ‘guides’, 'counselors'... for this purpose, most of whom do not have the right diploma. Or who have a certificate issued by a shady training institute.

There are good books

ADD treatment: our point of view

The effects of medication on ADD appear almost immediately and are sometimes spectacular. Nevertheless, we advise doctors to prescribe it only to schoolchildren during classes/studies and in students only during block and exams. Health or medication?

As a permanent aid for ADHD, we strongly recommend sleep hygiene, nutrition and exercise. To this end, we designed a ADD treatment programme. If you received a positive diagnosis during our examination, you will be sent this online programme free of charge.

And beyond that? You don't need to hire a ‘coach’ to concretely address your daily complaints. There are good books that allow you to learn this yourself, piece by piece (see photo).

Effects of taking medication in AD(H)D:

The effect of medication on AD(H)D symptoms is in some cases immediate and sometimes spectacular. Complaints disappear completely or partially.

However, there are many questions on the use of medication in AD(H)D.

There is little reliable scientific research on the negative effects of taking this medication, especially in the longer term and in adults.

For some years now, we have not advised doctors to prescribe medication for AD(H)D except to schoolchildren during lessons and studying and to students during block and exam periods.

Many of our patients struggle with the idea of taking medication for life. Often, patients in our Practice experience increasing strain on body and mind in the process. Some people also experience personality changes due to the medication.

Only a doctor can prescribe AD(H)D medication. Consult your GP at all times.

Under no circumstances should you take or change medication without the advice and prescription of your doctor! Do not buy medication over the internet under any circumstances!

Most common AD(H)D side effects medication during start-up (1-2 weeks):

  • Difficulty falling asleep.
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth, palpitations or accelerated heartbeat, sweating, headache
  • Nervousness, or feeling agitated.
